On 1-2 December, a delegation from the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted a working visit to Antalya to study best practices in tourism management, sustainable tourism policy, the development of rural and agrotourism, and the planning of tourism and recreation zones.
As part of the visit, information sessions were organized by the relevant bodies of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency. Presentations covered Turkey’s tourism legislative framework, the management of tourism and recreation centres, sustainable governance models in tourist destinations, measures for climate-change adaptation, the application of the green-destination model, and ecotourism initiatives.
The delegation visited Ormana village, which is included in the “Best Tourism Villages” list of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, and received briefings on the community-based management model and the methods used to preserve traditional village life. The delegates also reviewed planning practices and the management of coastal tourism infrastructure at the Belek Cultural and Tourism Protection and Development Zone.
During the meetings, the parties emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation and of exchanging knowledge and experience in the noted areas.
The visit was organized to implement activities envisaged in the Action Plan adopted within the framework of the IV meeting of the Azerbaijan-Turkey Joint Commission on Tourism, which was held in Baku on 6 February of this year.
